Canvas is used all over the world in many different industries and has been utilized in this way for many centuries. You'll find that it's used for sailboats, canoes, clothing and even trampolines! Perhaps one of the most commonly recognized uses for canvas is that of wall art canvas.
Wall art canvas originates from one of two plants, depending on the type you're using. It either comes from the flax plant, if it's linen canvas, or it comes from the cotton plant, if it's cotton. As a general rule, linen is considered higher quality canvas but depending upon what the artist who is using for their work prefers or what their initial budget is, they may prefer cotton. The texture of each is slightly different, as is how paint lies on it. Linen fabric is somewhat sturdier and lasts for longer but again, depending on the project, that may not matter enough to justify spending the extra money on it. Canvas has been and continues to be one of the more versatile fabrics mankind has come up with while here on earth. Despite all of the technological advances we've seen over the last century, canvas is as popular today as it always has been. It continues to serve mankind as the wheel has, in many ways, every day.
